Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player secured his first championship for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the past month - peaking in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
